Russet & Sage is a specialist heritage building consultancy and craft practice in Northamptonshire, founded in 2022 by Tom and Charlotte Harris. We exist to bridge the gap between technical surveying expertise and craftsmanship—a rare combination that delivers beautiful and historically sympathetic results.

Tom Harris is a RICS-registered residential property surveyor with a passion for heritage properties and the stories they tell us through the features, materials, and craftsmanship. Following a decade's experience working with bespoke hot-mixed lime mortars on heritage buildings, Tom completed his residential surveying qualification alongside further conservation training at West Dean College, renowned for its specialist teaching of conservation and crafts. This varied skill set enables us to provide detailed and accurate surveys.

Tom spent 14 years working for both Surrey Fire and Rescue and London Fire Brigade up to the rank of Sub Officer. Tom retrained and redirected towards his passion of heritage buildings over a 10 year period before establishing Russet and Sage and continues his mission to help others to understand and manage their traditional homes. When Tom is not completing survey work, he is renovating his own listed property with his wife Charlotte and labradoodle Monty. We enjoy working closely with homeowners and like-minded professionals primarily in Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, and the North Cotswolds, although we travel much further afield to support clients who are looking for the appropriate level of time and attention on their property.
