Aynho lime repointing

What does repointing entail?

General repointing specification:

  • Joints to be raked out to a minimum of 25mm.

  • Raked joints will be cleared of any friable material.

  • Joints to be damped before mortar is applied.

  • Cleaned joints to be backfilled with appropriate lime mortar specification.

  • Masonry friendly tools would be used.

  • Mortar to be applied and pressed into joints.

  • Applied lime mortar to be further compacted into joints then brushed to a flush finish.

  • Hessian will be used when required to protect mortared joints from any adverse weather conditions.

  • Damaged stone and brickwork to be replaced where necessary.

  • Where brick/ stone is has limited damage a repair mortar can be used.

Often one of the more disruptive and difficult aspects of building maintenance and repair is access. Chimneys and difficult to access elevations are often in poor condition due to the cost and disruption of scaffolding access requirements.
