What does repointing entail?
General repointing specification:
-
Joints are to be raked out to a minimum of 25mm.
-
Raked joints will be cleared of any friable material.
-
Joints are to be damped before mortar is applied.
-
Cleaned joints are to be backfilled with appropriate lime mortar specifications.
-
Masonry-friendly tools would be used.
-
Mortar is to be applied and pressed into joints.
-
Applied lime mortar to be further compacted into joints then brushed to a flush finish.
-
Hessian will be used when required to protect mortared joints from any adverse weather conditions.
-
Damaged stone and brickwork are to be replaced where necessary.
-
Where brick/ stone has limited damage a repair mortar can be used.

Often one of the more disruptive and difficult aspects of building maintenance and repair is access. Chimneys and difficult-to-access elevations are often in poor condition due to the cost and disruption of scaffolding access requirements.
